Anne Geddes was born in Queensland, Australia on September 13, 1956. Anne was born the third out of five daughters. She was raised on a beef cattle property. Her and her sisters were true country girls spending their time horseback riding, mustering cattle, and swimming in the creeks. When Anne was growing up she spent a lot of time looking at magazines such as National Geographic and Life. Anne loved images of people and being fascinated by a single still image captured in time. When Anne was seventeen she took a job in New Zealand with tourist hotels. Anne wanted to record her adventure and took hundreds of photos, learning and observing the qualities of natural light. When Anne was twenty-two she opened her own small retail-clothing store called Daddy Long Legs, but it closed. Anne was then hired as a secretary at a local television station in Brisbane, Australia, there she met Kel Geddes the station's programming director. In 1983 Kel and Anne married. In Melbourne, Anne started her first studio in an old run down garage at the back of their garden. Anne used to photograph her two daughters in tutus, and would make themed cards for friends and herself. A few of her shots were aired in magazines because of contests she had won. Anne decided to specialize in children's portraiture. Anne moved back to New Zealand in 1992 and published her first calendar, which sold out. Anne now has two bestselling books and does many pregnancy pictures with celebrities such as Celine Dion. In 2009 she won the Lifetime Achievement Award. She alsohelps prevent child abuse and neglect.
