Design PrinciplesBy: Elizabeth Walker DepthDepth is the distance from the nearest to the farthest point. Depth works because it makes the viewer wonder whats beyond what they can see.
This picture makes me feel calm and at peace because the snow is ever so gently laying upon the branches and it isn't disturbing anything. The photo is balanced because every little snowflake is perfecting placed and unless it is moved by a natural cause it will stay among the branches. The mountains also show a balance because of the up and down flow. The light, the sun, I think is coming from the left side because it is a little more glossy and bright. The texture of the mountains and snow flow really well. The focus of the photo is on the second layer of branches covered in snow and its also on the mountains behind it. The background is the mountains and the horizon is more in the middle. I think that this photo is about finding peace with yourself through nature.
Direction
Direction is a course that must be taken in order to reach a destination. When a picture adds direction it makes the eye move around. You also wonder where the path may lead to.
This picture makes me feel like George of the Jungle with all the trees and bushes surrounding the path. The photo balances because of the same amount of curves in the path. The light is coming into the photo from the right side because its being shown between the trees and onto the path. The texture on the trees is more bumpy and rough and the path is smooth and flowing. The focus is on the whole photo. The background is of the forest. This photo is about nature being subtle and for people to view the uniqueness of the wooden boards going through the forest slowly so not to disturb the peace.
Color Space
Color space shows a wide range of vibrance and magnetic qualities. These photos show balance and different forms of light. Most of these photos are bright and have essence.
This picture makes me feel sensational and not boring. This picture balances because there is more than 1 flower and different colours that all blend well. The light is coming from behind the the flowers. The light is was most likely made by a lighting system. The texture of the flowers and the green leaves looks smooth and the rocks on the bottom look bumpy. The focus of the photo is on the first two flowers. The background consists of more flowers and of long green leaves. The photo is about being creative and showing your true colours in all your artwork.
Framing
Framing is taking a picture through a window, a doorway, or an arch, ect... Framing adds depth to photograph.
This picture makes me feel like i am on a blissful vacation in a little cottage with a wonderful view. The picture is balanced because the window is open. The lighting is the sun which is shining from the right side. It's coming from the right side because on the left window there is a piece that is affected by the sun. The wooden window is smooth and the wall is smooth. The focus of the photo is mostly on the window opening and a little bit of the trees are in focus. The background consists of trees and bushes right behind the window then there is a mountain surrounded but water. The photo is about relaxing and enjoying the view while you have it and to not take anything for granted.
Element Relationship
Element relationship is when two elements that are related to each other interact in a harmonious way.
This photo makes me feel gracious and loved. The picture is balanced because the two animals are standing side by side with the bird sitting on top of the mother rhinoceros and half the photo is focused and the other half isn't. The sun is shining from the right onto the three animals. The texture on the rhinoceroses are wrinkly and bumpy. The focus of the photo is is on the rhinoceroses and the grass below them. Behind the rhinoceroses it is out of focus, but the background looks like more grass land. The photo is about a relationship with a mother and her baby and in the first years where the child learns to do so much. The mother is very protective and walks close by.
Balance
Balance is when different parts of the photo demand your attention through light and dark areas.
This photo makes me feel proper and that i need to be on my best behavior. This picture is balanced because of the two chairs in the same position, but on opposite sides. It is also balanced with the decor piece on the table in between the chairs. The light which has been made by a lighting device is shining into the photo from the left because the flooring, wall and chair on the left are lighter then the right side. The texture is soft and velvety from the chairs and the floor. The focus is on the whole photo. The background is the wall covered in an olive coloured wallpaper. This photo is about being professional and confident with yourself.
Diagonals
Diagonal lines draw the viewers eye through the photograph. They create points of interest as they intersect with other lines and often give images depth by suggesting perspective.
This photo makes me feel dizzy and overwhelmed with these huge buildings in view especially when looking up at them. This picture is balanced because pieces of the buildings are the same color as the sky. The lighting is the sun which is coming from the bottom of the photo and shining on the the smaller building at the bottom of the photo. The texture of the buildings look glossy and smooth. The focus is on the whole photo. The background is of the sky with a light layer of clouds floating through it. The photo is about setting goals and that the sky is the limit and you can do anything if you set your mind to it.
